About Me

My journey

I am a therapist because I know the value of relationships.

My previous career as an eductor taught me the power of connection. I learned how much more satisfied people were when they found meaningful relationships. I cultivated them and wanted to aim all my energy toward them.

As a gay man, I have also found meaning in my family-of-choice. My longing for intimacy - for honesty, pleasure, authenticity - kept growing as I grew older. Despite the struggle of coming out, constructing new models of relating has taught me even greater empathy. Our shared humanity is our common bond. We are all fellow travelers.

I attended UC San Diego for my undergraduate degree, with a stint at the University of Edinburgh for further study. After over a decade teaching in the Bay Area, I completed a Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology at The Wright Institute in Berkeley, CA, which emphasizes social justice in therapy. I am currently an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist (AMFT) in California working toward licensure.

I live in the East Bay with my husband and three chickens. I am an amateur musician, lover of stories, and lifelong learner.

I am an active member of the following organizations:

California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists (CAMFT)

California Association of Harm Reduction Therapists (CAHRT)

American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors, and Therapists (AASECT)

Bay Area Open Minds (BAOM)

GAYLESTA (The Psychotherapist Association for Gender and Sexual Diversity)

Association of Family Therapists in Northern California (AFTNC)
The International Centre for Excellence in Emotionally Focused Therapy (ICEEFT)

A Letter to Me

To my previous self: Thank you for everything you’ve

done to get me to where I am today. You’ve taught me

great lessons that I will carry with me forever.

To my current self: Be where your feet are; you’re

exactly where you’re supposed to be. And keep going;

you’re doing better than you think.

To my future self: I can’t wait to be acquainted and

meet all of the new parts of you. It brings me comfort

and excitement that I will encounter new layers.

To all of my selves: Let’s unite and continue to embark

on this journey together. For without one, I am none.
